Summerset National Awards | Bowler of the Year | Mandy Boyd

Representing Elmwood Park and Canterbury, Boyd produced one of the standout seasons in recent memory, highlighted by an extraordinary double at the 2026 Summerset National Championships.  

Playing on her home greens in Christchurch, she claimed both the Women's Open Pairs title alongside Kirsten Edwards and her long-awaited first Women's Open Singles title, completing a remarkable week of competition.  

The singles victory carried particular significance. Having previously finished runner-up twice in the event, Boyd finally captured the one national title that had eluded her, defeating Takapuna's Leanne Poulson 21-16 in a high-quality final.  

The win showcased the resilience and composure that have become trademarks of her game.  

Those victories also secured Boyd a place in New Zealand bowls history.  

Her singles triumph was her 10th national title, making her only the third woman ever to win 10 or more New Zealand national championships, joining legends Millie Khan and Cis Winstanley. Her remarkable record now includes one singles title, three pairs titles, and six fours titles.  

Equally respected for the way she conducts herself, Boyd has been an outstanding ambassador for bowls throughout her career.  

Her achievements have inspired players throughout Canterbury and New Zealand, while her longevity at the top level reflects the dedication and professionalism required to remain among the country's elite bowlers year after year.

To win one national title is a significant achievement. To win two in the same championship, including a maiden singles crown and a historic 10th national title, is the mark of a truly exceptional season.
