Summerset National Awards | Coach of the Year | Jonathan Truesdale

It was created to provide aspiring players with access to quality coaching and development opportunities and the programme has become an important pathway for bowlers looking to advance their game. Truesdale has also helped shape the future of the sport through the Canterbury Under-26 Programme, which he co-founded in 2023 and continues to coach.

The programme places a strong emphasis on long-term player development and has already produced several athletes who have gone on to represent New Zealand and Oceania. Under his guidance, Canterbury claimed the National Under-26 Five-A-Side Championship in 2025 and has continued to build a strong group of emerging young players.

At Club Redcliffs, where he serves as Lead Coach, Truesdale delivers regular coaching and development opportunities for members across all levels of the game. His involvement has helped strengthen player engagement and create an environment where bowlers feel supported in improving their skills. Beyond the club, he has also contributed to school and community initiatives that introduce more people to the sport and encourage wider participation.

In 2026, Truesdale graduated from Bowls New Zealand's Performance Coach Advance Programme, reflecting his commitment to developing his own coaching knowledge and sharing that expertise with others throughout the bowls community.

Respected by players, fellow coaches, administrators, and families alike, Jonathan Truesdale has made a meaningful contribution to bowls through his focus on development, opportunity, and people.
