Bowls New Zealand

We are a club of just over 80 players together with over 100 social members.

The club bowling competitions are very competitive with good numbers participating in championship, trophy and tournament events, and there are opportunities for the more social bowlers to attend ‘Roll-ups’. New and prospective members are always most welcome.

Set in a relaxing sports reserve with ample parking, welcoming members, and friendly staff the club aims to be at the heart of the community providing a sociable place to relax and enjoy the sport of lawn bowls with your friends and family.

We have a host of playing opportunities for you to choose from. For those just starting or who enjoy a casual game, come along to our roll-ups on Tuesdays and Thursdays - draw closes at 9:15, 9:30 start of bowling with two games ending around noon.

We run 6 week twilight bowls leagues, business house bowls, and social fours tournaments when bowlers and novices can form a team and enjoy bowls, brews and a BBQ out in the sun.

If you’re feeling more competitive, then come to the Wednesday Triples (10am start), Friday Hong Kong Pairs (11am start), or Sunday pairs (12 noon start) for regular games with prizes for the 1st and 2nd places, and a consolation prize for a lucky team.

There’s always the club champs where you can match your skills against the other members and which lead on to champ of champs at the regional and national level.

But wait, there's more! Join an interclub team to represent Blockhouse Bay and play against folks from other clubs, or enter a team in our trophy series or ham tournaments.

Plus we have coaching aimed at all levels - currently on Tuesdays and Thursdays - to help you read the green and outsmart your opponents.

Play Bowls

Three greens; one artificial, two natural

- The Club has two natural grass greens, the predominant grass being a blend of dioka (cotula), star weed and maniototo, which are played on from September to May each year. The ‘Greenweave carpet’ Smith Green laid in October 2021 is available for play all year round.

Venue Features

We have a well-appointed, spacious lounge and dining hall. An 83 inch TV is installed in the lounge and has Sky Sports channels available at all times.There is a pool table, two dart boards, and a ping pong table available to members and guests. A fully appointed bar is open from mid-afternoon Wednesday to Sunday into the evening serving a selection of beers, wines, spirits and, of course, non-alcoholic drinks plus snacks. Drinks are more than competitively priced against outside local venues.
