Level 2 Umpires may also be selected to officiate at national championships and other high-level competitions, subject to appointment by the controlling body.
Level 2 is designed for umpires who are already experienced at club and centre level and are ready to progress to a higher-level officiating.

To be eligible to train as a Level 2 Umpire, you must:
Be a currently accredited Level 1 Umpire
Have practical umpiring experience at club and centre level
Be recommended by your local umpires group
Progression to Level 2 is based on experience, competency, and readiness to officiate at higher levels.
Training for Level 2 Umpires is delivered through Bowls New Zealand-approved tutors and focuses on advanced officiating skills.

Practical on-green assessments
Mentored officiating opportunities

Advanced Laws Module
In-depth interpretation of the Laws of the Sport
Application of laws in complex and high-pressure scenarios
Consistency and accuracy in decision-making
Advanced Measuring Module
Complex measuring situations
Use of approved measuring equipment in competitive settings
Practical assessment of measuring accuracy
When you are ready, you will complete assessments covering both laws knowledge and practical officiating ability

Fees are payable as part of the assessment and accreditation process.
To remain accredited as a Level 2 Umpire, you are required to complete a re-accreditation process every four years, in partnership with your local umpires group and Bowls New Zealand.
