Blackjacks Set to Host India in Landmark International Series

August 1, 2026

In 2026, New Zealand and India will celebrate 100 years of connection through sport, marking a relationship that began in 1926 when an Indian Army hockey team toured New Zealand. A century later, that connection continues through sport, culture and community, bringing people together across both countries

As part of the 100 Years of Unity Through Sport programme, Bowls New Zealand is proud to welcome India for a three-day international bowls test series in Auckland from 16-18 November 2026. The series will see the Blackjacks take on India’s men’s and women’s teams in what promises to be a special celebration of bowls, culture and friendship.

We’re incredibly proud to be part of the 100 Years of Unity Through Sport programme. This series is about more than international competition. It’s about bringing communities together, celebrating our shared love of sport, and recognising the important connections between New Zealand and India. We look forward to welcoming the Indian team and sharing everything that makes our sport special.

Bowls New Zealand President Piripi Huwyler says the series is an exciting opportunity to celebrate both the sport and the people behind it.

For Bowls New Zealand, being part of this milestone is about much more than competition. Bowls has always been a sport that brings people together, whether you are a first-time visitor, a club volunteer, a lifelong bowler or an international athlete. The green has a way of creating connection, conversation and friendships that last well beyond the final end.

Across the three days, spectators can look forward to top-class international bowls alongside cultural experiences that celebrate the strong relationship between New Zealand and India. From shared food and traditional dance to great bowls and great company, the series will showcase the welcoming spirit that sits at the heart of both countries.

The wider programme recognises the important role sport has played in connecting New Zealand and India for a century, while also celebrating one of New Zealand’s largest and fastest-growing communities. Through sport, culture, food, business and community events, 100 Years of Unity Through Sport highlights the many ways the two countries are connected today.

For bowls, this series is a chance to showcase the sport on an international stage while opening the door to new audiences, new friendships and new community connections. Most importantly, it is an opportunity to be part of a sporting relationship that has been 100 years in the making.

We can’t wait to welcome India to our shores and celebrate this special milestone together
